IB Academic Courses Groups 1-6

All IB Diploma Programme students need to be in good academic standing to join/ remain in the IB DP. MHS IB teachers, counselors, and IB DP Coordinator support students throughout the program.

• Language & Literature I & II - SL (two year)

• Language & Literature I & II - HL (two year)

Students should not have any gaps in language (9th or 10th grade).​

• Spanish:

  • Spanish IV - SL (one year)

  • Spanish V & VI - HL (two year)

• German:

  • German IV - SL (one year)

• French:

  • French IV - SL (one year)

  • French V & VI - HL (two year)

Reach out to IB DP Coordinator regarding Ab Initio (beginning Spanish) - if needed.

• IB History of the Americas I & II - HL only (two year)

  • includes US History, Government, and Economics

• IB Psychology I - SL only (one year) (IB elective)

• IB Chemistry I - SL only (one year)

• IB Physics I & II - HL only (two year)

• Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) - SL only (one year) - FALL 2027 (not available 2026-2027)

• IB Computer Science I - SL (one year) (IB elective)

All IB students need to complete PreCalculus prior to beginning any IB math (junior or senior year/ both).​

• IB Applications and Interpretation II (AI) - SL (one year)

• IB Analysis and Approaches II (AA) - SL (one year)

• IB Analysis and Approaches III & IV (AA) - HL (two year)

• IB Theatre I & II - HL (two year) 

• IB Visual Arts I & II - SL (two year) (prerequisite: Art 1)

• Students may also take IB Psychology I (Group 3) or IB Computer Science I (Group 4) as their Group #6 IB Elective.

• OR students may choose to take a second science course (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or ESS) from Group #4
